Thibaut Devigne It is my understanding that this recording was done douring an improv session comprising of three musician. It sounds like jazz, but it would also convene for people looking for ambiant music as it is so smooth and based on pattern repetition. Quite unique and definitively worth it. Favorite track: Ayo.

about

In December of 2008, nine years after the timeless classic “avant-goema” “Sagtevlei” by Alex van Heerden and Derek Gripper with Brydon Bolton on bass, the three musicians got together for a live reunion recorded by Alex Bozas. Two weeks later Alex van Heerden was killed in a car accident, leaving this as the last testimony of the magic that these three musicians could make together. The music was a spontaneous creation without prior rehearsal and features compositions by Derek Gripper and Alex van Heerden, including their interpretation of the Western Cape farm song Sissie my Kind kom Huistoe.

‘Ale!x,’ by the Sagtevlei Trio, is a gentle masterpiece.” [Paul Croughton writing for The Times UK].
